The more you know about the past the better prepared you are for the future.

Pointe a Pierre Government Special School first opened its doors on April 14th 1988. The school was established under the auspices of the National Alliance for Reconstruction (NAR) when they formed the government in 1986. The school was started with fifty-five (55) students and eleven (11) teachers and was under the headship of Mrs. Myrna Alexander, Principal 1 and Ms. Angela Braithwaite, Vice Principal 1, inclusive and managed by the Special Education Unit under the supervision of Ms. Catherine Donaldson- Baptiste, School Supervisor 11.
When established the school was the first state owned and managed “special school” in Trinidad and Tobago. Today the school remains the only state managed special school in Trinidad & Tobago which has a cross categorical (different disabilities) population. Presently the population at our school consists of forty students of varying special education needs, along with nine teachers and auxiliary staff members. Our school occupies two of PETROTRIN’s bungalows, as well as an additional building that was constructed for the school. This additional building also accommodates the Braille Unit, which is operated by three staff members. This Unit performs the task of converting text documents to Braille and repairing and servicing of Braillers for visually impaired students in Trinidad.
The Pointe-a-Pierre Government Special School has recently celebrated its 30th year anniversary in collaboration with its dedicate and long standing stakeholders who have proved their worth on many occasions. For the past thirty years the officials of this school have selflessly served the needs of their charges. The students of this school have demonstrated their determination and resilience in their pursuance of their personal goals in-spite of the challenges that they face.
